Submitting to Search Engines
If you want people to find your stuff, it's a good idea to submit your site to search engines and directories. You
can do this at any time, although it's probably best to do once it has a lot of content, rather than in the early
stages or still 'under construction'. Most search engines use 'bots' to 'crawl' websites and will probably find
you anyway, but it's still worth spending a few minutes submitting your site to popular search engines and
directories.
Google is a very popular search engine, and they offer a number of tools to help you promote your
website. It's incredibly easy to submit your site to them, it takes very little time to do, and it's free.

Yahoo is another massively popular search engine. "The goal of Yahoo! Search is to discover and index all of
the content available on the web to provide the best possible search experience to users." There are a
number of ways you can submit to Yahoo Search, you can submit your site address, submit products for
inclusion in Yahoo Shopping and submit to Yahoo's Directory. Registration is required with Yahoo for site
submission, and fees apply for more advanced services.

Another top rated search engine is from Microsoft. Bing search (previously known as Live and MSN) also accept
submissions for free inclusion in their search.

Another very popular site to submit to is The Open Directory Project, or DMOZ. DMOZ is not a search engine,
but a web directory of Internet resources, a bit like a huge online library. Because of it's popularity, submitting
to them and getting a link from them to your site is considered to be worth the effort in promoting your
website's visibility. Before you submit your site to DMOZ, read the guidelines carefully - they don't accept all
sites and review them before accepting - so it's good to get your site up to scratch before submitting to them.
Be prepared for a wait too, it can take a few months to be accepted.
